Description

The hypothesis of this diet is that the liver is a fat-burning furnace and that by eating the right food, at the right time, the dieter will increase their metabolism and burn fat efficiently. There doesn’t seem to be much scientific proof to back this claim however.

Ease for Dieter*

Hard

  • As well as weight loss, this diet boasts detoxification
  • The diet does require strict attention to what is eaten, especially during the first two phases.
  • Supplement kits are available for purchase and increasing exercise also make this diet harder to follow.

(*My impression is based on my research and how hard I think it would be to maintain for 1, 6, 8, 10, 20 weeks. Your experience may vary.)

Food Emphasis

  • Staged Approach
  • Phase 1 is a detox phase and consists of eight glasses of cranberry juice mixed with water each day. The dieter needs to stay between 1,100 and 1,200 calories per day and avoid dairy and wheat products.
  • Phase 2 slightly raises calories each day and carbs are slowly added back in.
  • Phase 3 is the lifetime diet. It uses a ration of 40% carbs to 30% protein and 30% fat to determine daily eating.
  • Significant calorie restriction
  • Food Diary Required

Maintenance Plan

  • Lifetime. (Stage 3)

Suggested Activity Level

  • 20-30 Minutes of Exercise 5 days per week plus 100 jumping jacks on a mini trampoline 7 days during Phases 1 and 2.
  • Phase 3 increases times and adds strength training.
